R4HC Update
By Jeremy Gesicki

September 13, 2008 -

I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone that was able to attend the WAHA Region 4 Fall Meeting this past Wednesday.  Thank you for your time and commitment to the growth of hockey in Region 4.

It is also important that I share with you a summary of our Region 4 Hockey Council activities over the summer and the important dates to remember as we move forward into this hockey season.

Recreational Hockey
  • Region 4 Hockey Council organized an ad hoc committee to help develop recreational hockey opportunities in the Region 4 area.
  • It was confirmed that several clubs have interest in creating or continuing recreational hockey opportunities for their association members in effort to help lower the time and financial commitments that have been associated with competitive youth hockey.
  • It was agreed that developing a recreational hockey option for skaters in Region 4 would provide a vehicle for both hockey growth and skater retention.
  • It has been decided that we, as Region 4 Hockey Council, must help clubs promote and grow these recreational programs, at all age levels.
  • Region 4 Hockey Council will assist clubs in creating co-operative recreational programs (where it geographically makes sense) or help skaters find a 'recreational home' if their local association can not support a team.
  • Several clubs have identified skaters of the U-10, U-12, U-14 and older age levels that would have interest in recreational hockey.
  • We have set a meeting for 6:00 PM, September 17th at the Coliseum Bar - Madison, to discuss Region 4 recreational hockey.  All clubs are requested to send a representative to speak to their association's recreational programs or commitments.
  • Questions of immediate concern can be directed to Scott Meske at vicepresident@region4hockey.org.

Region 4 Hockey Council Meetings

  • R4HC General Membership meetings will continue to be held at the Coliseum Bar, in Madison - 7 PM, on the third Wednesday of each month.
  • Effective October 15th, R4HC Executive Committee meetings have been moved to the Coliseum Bar, in Madison - 6 PM, on the third Wednesday of each month.  This move was made to encourage participation in the R4HC and lower the travel commitment for those that need to attend both the Executive Committee and General Membership meetings

ALD Elections

  • Age Level Directors will be elected at the R4HC general membership meeting September 17th.
  • With the recent change to the R4HC Executive Committee meeting schedule, we hope several people are motivated to participate in the Region 4 Hockey Council at board-level positions.
